System Design
Why Pump Speed Matters
A variable-speed pump can run at lower speeds for routine filtration and increase speed only when a heater, cleaner, spa, solar system or water feature requires additional flow. Reducing speed can lower hydraulic friction, operating noise and energy use, but the schedule must still provide adequate circulation for every connected component.
The appropriate pump and programming depend on plumbing size, elevation, filter condition, pool volume, equipment requirements and the way the pool is used. Energy savings vary by the existing system, operating schedule and electric rate.
Before Installation
- Confirm electrical supply and bonding.
- Identify suction and return plumbing.
- Account for heater and filter flow requirements.
- Review cleaner, spa, solar and water-feature demand.
After Installation
- Program filtration and feature schedules.
- Verify priming and flow at each speed.
- Coordinate automation and heater calls.
- Explain controls and schedule changes to the owner.
