But sometimes the evenings get cool and the water loses its temperature. Gas heaters are generally used to take the chill off, but there is an economical alternative - install a light weight portable solar blanket that insulates againt heat loss. They float on top of the water and (with a solar reel) can be rolled up for storage. While on our service routes, we encounter many of these in Van Nuys. Pool maintenance includes water features with floating solar panels or rings, so we are prepared. We do request that our clients remove their cover prior to the service day as this allows debris to settle or be pulled into the filter. Doing this for a few days also allows the pool to breathe, and cool off a bit. With hot temperatures in the Valley, a solar blanket can actually make it uncomfortably to swim in.
