Swimming pool water is not always recoverable when an algae bloom takes over. Sometimes the hardness levels or total dissolved solids rise too high beyond acceptable limits, requiring draining and refilling. This happens over time as evaporation will leave minerals to build up in parts per million, making the water too saturated. Over saturation can scale the walls, tile and heat exhanger besides making service a more difficult task. Balancing the sanitizer to be effective now requires much higher levels to be effective at neutralizing unwanted organic material. Chlorine just isn't as effective anyore.
