Most filtration assemblies have the ability to reverse the flow of water and eject debris and dirt that has accumulated on the grids, sand or cartridge media. A valve is situated on the filter body or adjacent with a backwash position for this purpose. Typically there are push-pull and rotary - or multiport - valves that function to redirect the flow in reverse fashion. Most equipment pads expect rainwater or backwash water to collect in the area and so drainage is conventionally placed to mitigate any buildup that may threaten electrical or pump corrosion if overly exposed. This temporary solution to a dirty filter is only performed to stave off a disassembly and full cleaning - but essential to have.
